2021- Events

  Thyagaraja Aradhana Akhandam -

It’s that time of the year when Carnatic musicians flock to Thiruvaiyaru for the annual Thyagaraja Aradhana. The five-day festival, which starts around the time of Bahula Panchami, sees musicians from different parts of the world, singing Thyagaraja kritis. However, this time around due to the pandemic, the festival will be held only for two days, that, too, with limited musicians. But, that hasn’t stopped musicians — Thanjavur Murugaboopathi, VK Manimaran, KN Shashikiran, Nirmala Rajasekar and Sriram Natarajan — from doing a virtual Thyagaraja Aradhana with 300 musicians, for 50 hours non-stop. Sri Thyagaraja Akhada Gaanam is an idea that came up five days before the actual shoot but turned into a beautiful series of concerts with the musicians coming together to offer sangeetha samarpanam to the saint.

Aired through social media on February 6th and 7th 2021,  Layyasaaram helped sponsor this event as well as helped produce the concert by Vid Nirmala Rajasekar.
